Privacy Policy
Effective October 15, 2026
This policy covers the LaneScope app for iPhone ("the app") and this website. It explains what the app does with your information, in plain language.
The short version
- Your videos, measurements and notes stay on your iPhone.
- We don't collect anything. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
- The camera and microphone are used only to record your throws.
- The app only adds to your photo library when you tap Save Video. It can't see your photos.
- Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple.
What the app stores on your iPhone
- Video and sound of your throws. While a session is running, the camera films the lane, and the app keeps a short clip of each throw, with the sound of the pins. Clips are stored only on your iPhone.
- Measurements and your entries. Speed, rev rate, boards, angles, pinfall, lane setups, the balls in your bag (including any ball photo you pick), the names you give bowlers in your group, bowling centres, notes and your settings.
All of this is stored in the app's own storage on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded to us or to any server. The app contains no third-party code for analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking.
What we collect
Nothing. We don't run servers for the app, and the app doesn't send your videos, measurements, or any other data to us or to anyone else. We can't see who uses the app or how.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera: to film your throws from the tripod so they can be measured. Video stays on your iPhone.
- Microphone: to record the sound of the pins with each throw's replay. Audio stays on your iPhone.
- Photos (add only): asked for only when you tap Save Video on a replay, to save that video, with its ball line and measurements drawn on, to your photo library. The app can add videos but can't read your library.
When you pick a photo for a ball, iOS's photo picker gives the app only the one photo you choose. The app doesn't use your location, contacts, or any other personal data. You can turn any permission off in your iPhone's Settings; recording needs the camera.
Subscriptions
LaneScope Pro is bought and managed through the App Store. Apple processes the payment. We don't receive your name, email, or payment details. The app checks with Apple, on your iPhone, whether your subscription is active; that information isn't sent to us. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions.
Backups, exports and sharing
- iPhone backups. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, that backup includes the app's sessions and measurements, under Apple's terms. Video clips are excluded from backups because of their size.
- Exports. If you export sessions, or save a video to Photos, the files go only where you choose to put or send them, such as Files, iCloud Drive or AirDrop.
- iCloud sync. The app doesn't sync to iCloud today. If a future version adds it, it will be optional, will use your own private iCloud account, which we can't access, and this policy will be updated first.
Contacting support
If you email us, including through Contact Support in the app (which fills in your app version and iOS version), we receive what you send: your email address and your message. We use it only to answer you, and we don't share it. Ask us any time to delete your emails.
This website
lanescope.app has no cookies, no analytics, no ads and no third-party scripts. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against attacks. We don't use that data to identify or track visitors.
Deleting your data
Delete a session, a throw, a bowler or a ball in the app, and it's gone from your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored. Since we hold none of your data, there's nothing for us to delete on our side, apart from any emails you've sent us.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13, and it collects no information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. If a change affects what happens to your data, we'll also say so in the app's release notes.
